“Push” is a creative rant on open doors and drawers that intends to bring awareness to a psychological disorder. Written from the perspective of a person who has an undiagnosed Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder, this narrative aims to capture the experience of this irrational behaviour in a fun and light-hearted way.
This project was motivated by a desire to critique the news media in their often biased way of framing news content. The manner in how news is presented and revealed to us alters our perception of the current world, and thus plays a big role in one’s definition of truth.
“29″ aims to examine the relationship between news headlines and the photographs which accompany them. It is a deliberate attempt to decontextualize text and redefine the meaning of news through its juxtaposition with everyday life images and through wordplay.
The methodology was to collect as many photographs (old or new) from various people on how they define everyday life. Simultaneously, I was collecting news headlines (front page and news page) from the National Post. This collection phase occurred in a span of 29 days, resulting to more than 1300 photos and 29 National Post newspapers.
News headlines were sequenced to form a narrative, and were juxtaposed with images of everyday life that seem to respond to what they mean when removed of political agendas or news context. In addition, the piece plays on finding words within words to subtly suggest that sometimes we need to investigate and look deeper into the meaning of words that we read.
“Down To Earth” is a narrative about the life of a Twig. Fed up of being treated as an insignificant character in nature, this particular twig learns to recognize his value and ambitiously ventures out in the woods to create an alternate destiny.
The Screwtape Letters (1941) is a satirical novel written by C. S. Lewis. It is composed of a series of letters from a senior devil to an inexperienced devil with advice on how to secure the condemnation of a newly converted Christian man, referred to as “the Patient.” Lewis highlights the importance of a deliberate decision to Christian living through the portrayal of a typical, flawed human life from a devil’s viewpoint.
The challenge for this project is to create a book trailer for The Screwtape Letters that captures its essence, tone, and mood without revealing too much of its narrative. The objective is to provide a creative interpretation and a brief sample of what the book is about as a way of enticing the audience into reading the novel, as well as to generate interest among a potentially new market.
In art and design, majority of the magazines that reach young students include annuals that showcase award-winning works from recognized studios and talented professionals. While these may be inspiring, merely seeing the end result often only serves as nothing more than a visual feast for students who do not have enough foundation or knowledge about the process behind developing inspired solutions. As a result, it is easy for them to feel intimidated.
