Ten Second Aciculation is a countdown leader similar to those found in old, classic black and white films where each film began with a countdown to the actual contents. The objective was to create a unique and interesting theme and incorporate that within the context of a countdown leader. The theme that I chose uses typographic approach to show the creation of the numbers through letters in the style of the custom typeface Acicula.
Unlike other iterations of the countdown leader I have seen that create numbers with letters, the final outcome became less predictable by shooting at different angles, giving an unpredictable yet controlled approach. The video first took form in frame-by-frame shots of the actions later compiled entirely with stop-motion technique and then finalized in Final Cut Pro.
Fan Expo is an event comprised of sub-sections, each having a different genre ranging from science fiction, horror, Japanese animation, comic books, and video gaming. The project involves the re-design of the identity program for the Fan Expo convention, which is held annually in Toronto, Ontario every August. Some examples of the events held there include celebrity guest appearances, question & answer and autograph sessions, professional video game tournaments, comic book and collectibles sales market, and many more.
The heart of my design direction for the event re-design is all about the passion and enthusiasm of all the fans that attend the event. Getting down to the heart of the convention, it is the fans, the attendees who drive this event, and so I decided to make them the center of my Fan Expo brand design.
