Oak Bay is a housing community in Muskoka that is targeted towards elderly couples and wealthy young families who all want to live ‘away’, but still close to the city. Concepts such as quality, comfort, genuineness, community, and the balance with nature are the backbone of Oak Bay.
The typeface, Roman Antique Italic, emphasizes good quality and being in touch with nature in several ways: the old style form of the type reinforces the historic quality where as the roughness of the letters relates to the natural texture of tree bark; because of the Italic the overall look has a fluidity to it, resembling water. The addition of the single oak leaf was to be immediately relevant to oak trees and to further relate the mark to nature. It is the relationship between the ‘k’ and ‘B’ where it looks like the letters are supporting each other, through this and the tight kerning of the other letters that aspects of genuineness and community are revealed.
