Make Magic Happen builds on the theme of magic and light to create a mystical mood for the audience. The type designs are inspired by magic circles, both historical and fictional. Blue conjures up moods of mystery and the ethereal brought on by images of scrolling down a dark street with only the moonlight shining down. Similarly, Make Magic Happen uses the dark atmosphere and single source of light as the fundamentals of the project.
The six designs are based from research done on the aesthetics of magic circles. Each design explores different aspects, such as the geometric style of “Unknown to Reality” compared with the decorative and curvy “Abra Kadabra”. The use of a focus for each design is to ensure that the design does not become overwhelming and disorienting. It also gives each design its own character while the underlying circle framework keeps the set together.
