Caribana is an annual event that displays a series of electrifying performances of Caribbean music and dance, stealing the spotlight along the streets of Toronto. The annual three day festival attracts hundreds of thousands of people from across the globe that come to enjoy the food, costumes and lively music. The main event is highlighted by a massive street parade along Lakeshore Road in which trucks loaded with speakers blast live Caribbean music such as soca, calypso, steelpan and dancehall. Using a range of different activities, young adults are often the highlights of the festival either through the creative costumes they have designed or the mix in music they have prepared. It is this audience that the festival project attempts to target; a youthful urban culture.
